On average, every family in Wiltshire buys around 500 glass bottles and jars every year - but we recycle less than 25% of them

Making glass bottles and jars from recycled ones saves energy. The energy saved from recycling one bottle can:

	Power a 100 watt light bulb for almost an hour
	Power a computer for 20 minutes
	Power a colour TV for 15 minutes
	Power a washing machine for 10 minutes

Re-processing

Glass is transferred from our MRF to T Berryman & Sons Ltd in West Yorkshire. Here it is remelted to make new bottles and jars in Europe's most modern glass treatement facility.

It is then sorted according to colour and all impurities are removed.

The glass is then crushed into small pieces known as cullet where it is then melted and re-moulded to make new bottles and jars. Click here to visit T Berryman & Sons Ltd for more information.


Did you know? Glass can also be used as aggregate in road building and can recycled over and over again without any loss of quality.

Remember - it is now even easier to recycle all of those empty glass bottles and jars.

Why not reycle them using you local black box kerbside recycling service, or at your local Household Recycling Centre and local mini recycling points.
