Changes to bin collection days in West Wiltshire

Bin collection days to change

Information stickers are being delivered to all West Wiltshire households over the next two weeks to tell people about changes to their bin collections.

From Monday 19 November, the District Council will be changing most collection days for both grey bins - which are used for non-recyclable rubbish - and green bins, which are used for garden waste. Black box collections (the recycling service for paper, glass, cans, foil and textiles) will remain unchanged.

Waste and recycling manager Laura Snoulton explained: “When we reviewed the waste and recycling service over the summer with our new contractor Focsa, we found that changing when we empty some bins would make the overall collection more efficient. Grey and green bins will still be collected on a fortnightly basis, but all grey bins in the district will now be collected in one week and all green bins in the next.”

Households affected by the changes will have a sticker placed on their bin to explain the new arrangements.

In the week starting Monday 19 November, all GREY wheelie bins will be collected on the day outlined above. This may result in some properties receiving a weekly rubbish collection but this is only whilst the new dates are implemented.

In the week starting Monday 26 November, all GREEN wheelie bins will be collected. The following week all grey bins will be collected and so on.

If you currently use the black bag collection, there will be no change to the service you receive.

Cllr Linda Conley, the Council’s environment portfolio holder, said: “Whilst changing the day that bins are emptied can be confusing, we have been left with little choice. The growth of the district, especially in some of the towns, has made it increasingly more difficult to maintain efficient collections. We are therefore delivering information stickers to every household, to help people remember when they need to put out their bins.”
