Help for those resolving to waste less and recycle more

Residents in Wiltshire are being urged to make full use of the county's ten Household Recycling Centres (HRC) to get rid of their festive waste.

The HRCs are open 9am to 4pm every day of the week with Warminster and Salisbury open additionally until 6pm every day. They are only closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Toby Sturgis, Wiltshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Planning and Waste, said: "People in Wiltshire will produce an extra 6,000 tonnes of waste over the Christmas period and the majority of it need not end up in a landfill.

"Alongside the black box collection, our Household Recycling Centres are there to make sure we can reuse and recycle as much waste as possible. You might need a clear out to make way for new items or simply to get rid of packaging but think twice before it goes in the bin.

"It might be unwanted clothes, discarded cardboard, redundant mobile phones, old televisions or real Christmas trees - we can take them all."

Residents in North and West Wiltshire and Salisbury who receive a black box service should, by now, have received a leaflet from Hills Waste Solutions Ltd on behalf of the Wiltshire Waste Partnership. It lets them know what changes there might be because of the bank holidays. It also includes reminders on what can be recycled. There are also details about the Household Recycling Centres (HRCs).

If anyone has queries about recycling they can ring the helpline on 0845 603 2085 or visit www.recycleforwiltshire.com.

Residents in Kennet will receive a different information leaflet on recycling over Christmas from their district council. Kennet residents who need more information can ring 01380 724911 or visit www.kennet.gov.uk.
